The New Hampshire Postsecondary Education Commission does not offer state college loans, although they have some loan forgiveness programs.
New Hampshire's state designated guarantor for the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) was the New Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation.
Now that this program is canceled (replaced by Direct loans) they no longer originate loans but they still provide financial aid administration services for their borrowers.
The NH Postsecondary Education Commission administers 8 state financial aid programs.
Five of these programs are grants or scholarships for college:
Granite State Scholars Program
Leveraged Incentive Grant Program
NH Incentive Program
Medical Education Program
Scholarships for Orphans of Veterans
Eligibility for the first two programs will be determined by your college. The NH Incentive Program uses the FAFSA
as its only application. This form will also be used to qualify you for
and/or a federal Pell grant.
To make sure your federal application for financial aid is received on time, check your New Hampshire
FAFSA deadline
.
The New Hampshire Postsecondary Education Commission oversees a variety of state college loans and grants, but when you compare college costs for New Hampshire schools and out-of-state schools it is easy to see why New Hampshire students graduate with the second highest college loan debt in the nation.
