A Tax Deduction Helps Valuable Education Users

by Chauncey Keaton
(Macon, GA, USA)

The college tax credit is a nice program! I am paying out of pocket while others get scholarships to abuse the system. I teach at a college and it is bad. Some are there just for the money.

The whole system needs to be reformed. It should be a general rule that if you work at a higher education institution, you should be able to take classes at your work place for free. (Professional Development!) If I want take a class at my college, I have to pay out of my pocket. Give the money to those that have proven themselves. If you make F's, you don't deserve the free money. If you make A's and B's, then we will support you in your education. I have a master's and just want to learn some new stuff.

Mostly all education programs only deal with the first four years of college. This is the first program that I know of that actually helps users who are going past the first four years of college into post-bac work. We have master's and doctorates and have proven ourselves. My service is education and it doesn't pay well! This needs to continue!!!

ANSWER:
I think everyone would like to have their employers pay for their education, but while this may be a perk available at private schools, it might be beyond public universities' budgets.
