Can I use the Pell grant at the school I want to attend?

by tonya

I have the school i want to attend. So if I get approved for a Pell grant, can I use it at the school I wish to attend?

ANSWER:

As long as that school is approved to receive federal student financial aid, you can use your Pell grant there. More than six thousand higher education institutions are listed as approved. This includes online schools and tech schools as well as more traditional two and four year colleges.

You can check the FAFSA school codes to see if your school is listed.

Bear in mind that even if you are approved for a Pell grant award, your school does have the right not to disburse some or all of it (even if they received the money) if they have reason to believe that you are no longer eligible for that amount. For instance if you are no longer enrolled for classes, if you have not attended classes or if you dropped some classes (which might create an overaward) they can withhold the funds.
