Can you only receive the Pell Grant once a lifetime?

by Stephanie Lyons
(Ohio)

How many times can you receive the Pell Grant?

ANSWER:

You are allowed to receive nine awards, if your first one was received on or after July 1, 2008. This has now been changed to only six awards, lifetime.

Each one must be applied for with the appropriate FAFSA for that year. Every award will be divided and disbursed during the school year according to the pay periods of the individual school. You can read the section of law that deals with how long a student is eligible for a Pell grant, here.
