College Tax Credit For Single Parents

by Laurie
(Allentown, PA)

For the first time at 47, I'm going to college. My kids aren't even in h.s. yet. I only earn 17K a year. I need the break so I can continue.

With the cost of gas to get to work (50 miles a day) I need all the help I can get so I can continue to go.

ANSWER:

Well, you've got two years of the college tax credit coming to you and hopefully it will be extended. (It is so popular that if I was a politician, I wouldn't dare let it expire.)

It is too late to do this for the 2011-2012 school year (applications closed on March 31) but bookmark this link for next year. It is for the AARP Foundation's Women's Scholarship Program. They give scholarship money to low income women over 40. You sound like a perfect candidate for an award.
