College Tax Credit...Divorced Parents Getting the Credit

I think the tax credit is good, but I think it should have been worded differently. My ex-husband gets to claim our daughter on his taxes, and he did not pay a penny on her college this year, we paid his summer bill and my daughter took out a student loan to pay his part, but he gets the American Opportunity tax credit (why is that fair) this is why our country is in the shape it is giving money to people that do not deserve it.

I can't believe someone that does not pay anything can get a tax credit- where in the world is that fair? So I think you should change it to where the parent has to pay the money (not the student) to be able to claim the deduction.
