Do I return my Pell Grant check?

by Sierra
(Massachusetts)

I am currently enrolled in school but I am looking at academic disqualification. I received a Pell grant check in the mail today; am I able to keep it or do I have to send it back?

ANSWER:

Definitely check with your financial aid office at school, but the answer I got from Federal Student Financial Aid was that if you do not get the credit for the courses you took (enough to maintain whatever status you were enrolled at and which helped to determine your Pell award amount) the money will have to be repaid.

If you were already on probation and you are facing academic suspension, be aware that your school will also have an appeals process you can follow.
