Extend the American Opportunity Tax Credit (Anonymous)
At this point in time, it's almost impossible to get a job that pays enough for a person to support their family unless they have a college education. The problem is that we simply can't afford to go to college right now because the job market is so unstable.
This tax credit and other programs targeted at enabling Americans to earn a higher education are the best way to help fix that problem. More and more people are entering college, or trying to, every year, and they're going to need this tax credit just as much as the people who are currently enrolled. I feel this should be extended to help the future students of our country as they struggle for the "good life" that is the American Dream. ================================================== What an excellent point you made! It's not just about the people in college today. If the economy is in recession now, it will still be affecting people's lives 5 or 10 years from now. For one thing, parents will not be able to save anywhere near the amounts that parents who have kids in college now, were able to save for the previous 10 years. What chance will someone who is 8 years old now have of going to college, if their parents are currently unemployed and they've just lost their home?
If the college tax credit lapses, we risk extending the economic misery in the country now, for another generation of Americans to experience.
This tax credit needs to become permanent, because the problems affecting the country now will echo into the future.
