Federal Pell Grant Changes Do Not Matter

by Chris
(NY)

Federal Pell grant changes in the numbers are not going to hurt community college students because the schools can adjust your cost of attendance. They can pad it so that you can still get the amount you would have before.

Even if you still pay the same cost of tuition when the bill gets paid, they can put down just about anything they want to. For students getting Pell grants, estimated expenses are what will bring the value of the grant up. No one going to a community college will actually pay $1,200 for books for three courses. But that is what they put down.

Financial aid offices in community colleges know how to help their students get the most money they can, because they know that their students are the ones who need it the most. They are the ones who fit their classes in between taking care of families and working at lousy jobs.
