I lost my Pell grant because i got severely ill and did not complete the semester. Can I reapply

by sarah cook
(Spruce Pine, NC)

About two years ago I had a Pell grant for several years. I lost it due to my GPA going under the guidelines because I became very ill.
Can I reapply and be accepted again?

Answer:

You will have to consult the financial aid office at your school. They can help you find out if you are eligible to file your FAFSA. On the FAFSA, you must certify that you do not owe an overpayment on a grant (or are in default on a federal loan) or that you have made satisfactory arrangements to pay if you do owe money.

If it turns out that you owe an overpayment (because you did not complete a satisfactory number of credits) on your previous Pell grant, you must make arrangements to pay that amount, before you submit a FAFSA.

If your financial aid office does not find any flags on your account when it is matched up to the national database, you would be eligible to apply again.
