How can a college not award 2 Pells in 1 award year to use in summer?
ANSWER:
If a student does not meet the criteria for the second Pell grant award, the college will not award it. Requirements include:
The student must be enrolled at least half-time during the summer.
At least one credit must be for a course that would be considered to be at the academic level of the student's next year.
At least 24 credit hours had to have been completed in the prior fall and spring semesters.
Completion of the full academic year's credits can be waived by the school for special circumstances, like illness.
And, as with any federal financial aid, if a student owes money on a loan or an overaward payment, and they have not made a satisfactory arrangement to pay it, no financial aid will be awarded.
If a school has reason to believe that a student is no longer eligible for federal aid, or if there are unresolved issues when they go through the verification process, the school can refuse to disburse further aid.
