When I filled out my FAFSA, for the Pell grant, I did not include my veteran education benefits. Every place I called, including both FAFSA and VA office, were unsure of if and where the amounts went.
I was awarded the full Pell grant and received the check; should I even cash it? I have been trying to call the school to see if they have any answers, but no one had called back. If I am supposed to include it, does anyone know what box it goes under?
Answer:
Before you do anything, wait until you get in touch with your financial aid office. You will probably have to file FAFSA corrections, but it might make no difference at all to the Pell grant award you were given. Only your school can advise you.
On the printable FAFSA, you would have included the information on question 44h- "Veterans noneducation benefits, such as Disability, Death Pension, or Dependency & Indemnity Compensation (DIC) and/or VA Educational Work-Study allowances."
In addition, question 49 asks if you are a veteran of the U.S. armed forces. Your financial aid office can advise you if corrections are needed, and they can even make them for you.
I've been taking classes for 2 years, full time and summer courses. The VA pays and the Pell Grant pays. Include your VA benefits in your FAFSA forms and you should be fine. I receive the full Pell Grant funding for year round. FYI: The VA pays full time rates on part time classes over the summer semester.

Veterans benefits must be claimed. by: Anonymous
I'm a veteran and for the past few years I have been having to claim both my disability and my Voc Rehab allowance. Do not cash the check. Get ahold of your financial aid office and get it corrected.
