Pell Grant Form...Your FAFSA Application
The Pell grant form at the FAFSA website has been greatly simplified so that it will be easier to get through it, qualify for aid and avoid too much college loan debt.
The actual form is here, but if you would like to know what to expect, read on."What is a Pell grant?" answers basic questions about the program. The Pell grant form or FAFSA application starts with a login page where you will enter your SSN, name and date of birth. For added security, use the virtual keyboard icon to enter your data. The next page is an introductory help page where you can find answers to FAQ's about the form. | If you use the FAFSA online application, you will be able to see which step you are on at the top of each page. When you complete a step, its box at the top will be dark blue with a red underline; while you are still on the step, it will be white. Pages that are for parent information only are now colored purple |
The Pell grant form (or FAFSA) is divided into seven steps:

You will be asked if you want to provide additional information about enrollment. If you select "yes", you can choose full-time, 3/4 time, half-time, less than half-time or don't know. 7...Confirmation
A page confirming your successful submission will be displayed. It will contain a confirmation number (randomly generated) as well as a data release number.Below this, is your Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) based on your federal Pell grant application answers. Based on your FAFSA EFC, you may be informed that you are eligible to receive - a federal Pell grant of up to __dollars
- an Academic Competitiveness Grant of up to __dollars
- low interest federal student loans
and that you might also be eligible for other federal, state or institutional scholarships, grants and/or work-study programs. Pell grant amounts are estimates only, based on the maximum you can qualify for. Pell grant qualifications also depend on your cost of attendance. This figure is supplied by the college. Unless you know for certain which school you will attend, grant amounts are estimates. If you know both your EFC and your COA (cost of attendance) you can use a Pell grant calculator to more accurately predict your award amount.
The Pell grant form is easier and quicker than ever to fill out. Every year, a new application must be filled for next year's award. It is important to meet the Pell grant requirements during the school year, so that amounts are not reduced.
