My husband and I have one child. We only made $25,000 combined, last year. Should I be eligible for a Pell grant?
Answer:
Based on what you have said here, you should have an EFC of 0 (less than $31,000 income and eligible to file the IRS Form 1040A or 1040EZ, or not required to file any taxes). This makes you eligible for the maximum Pell grant award for whatever type of enrollment and costs of attendance you have. The highest award anyone can get is $5550.
To find out what your award should be, you can go to the Pell grant calculator, enter an EFC of "0", put in the cost of attendance for your school (check their website or call them) and then choose full, part-time, or less than part-time for your enrollment.
