Read Textbooks Online with Cheap Textbooks for Sale

Why read textbooks online? It saves time, effort and money compared to a trip to the college bookstore. Within five minutes of looking for a book, you can be reading it.

Depending on where you go to buy, cheap textbooks for online reading could save you from 60% to 85% of the printed versions.

In the past, when reading textbooks online meant that you were restricted to using your computer, this was not a popular choice. But today, with so many lightweight, portable devices made just for reading, everyone can see the advantages.

Once you make the decision to use ebooks instead of printed texts, you will need to choose between downloadable or the online versions.

If you go for the downloadable books, you have the option of viewing them offline. But to read college textbooks online now requires an internet connection.

It will also require a free app, if you are using an iPhone or an iPad. The main advantage of online reading is, of course, that you are not tied to one device. It can be very hard to get new copies (without paying for them again) of downloadable textbooks, if your computer fails in the middle of the semester.

Where to Get CheapTextbooks that I Can Read Online?

CourseSmart is the company with the largest selection of academic texts used in colleges, today. While other companies may have more titles overall, their books include non-academic genres. CourseSmart only sells textbooks and course materials. And they are the company that colleges and many internet booksellers contract with to sell ebooks. For instance, if you buy an ebook from Buy & Sell books in the eCampus Marketplace! they will send you an email directing you to CourseSmart's website to create your account. So it makes sense to begin your search for ebooks at CourseSmart in the first place.

If you can't find the book you are looking for, or if you have the time to compare prices to find the best deal, these are two other ebook sellers:

Over 2 Million ebooks to choose from! Kobo has free apps for all devices (including desktops and laptops) as well as their own eReader. Your Kobo account allows you to switch between any of these devices (definitely more convenient than being restricted to the one you make the purchase with).

eBooks.com Ebooks.com offers a large selection of academic books (over 50,000) in five different formats to match all online reading devices (including the Kobo reader).

So which one is the best to buy textbooks cheap? Typically, prices are set by the publishers- not the sellers, but any ebook will be cheaper than a new, printed copy, even if you buy college textbooks online. And of course, you won't have to sell used textbooks back at the end of the semester to make ends meet.

If you read textbooks online at CourseSmart, it is similar to how people rent textbooks. The texts are available for a term of 180 to 540 days. The cost is therefore, cheaper.

Online textbooks have a lot of advantages.

  • They do not have to be downloaded onto your computer.
  • There is no danger that the book you want is out of stock- if the seller carries it, it will always be available.
  • You do not have to worry about mailing them back or selling them.
  • You can highlight, make notes or print sections without ruining the book. (You can do all these things too, if you buy a subscription to one of the academic internet libraries.)

Although more and more schools are encouraging their students to read textbooks online to save money (and because it provides an easy, common user experience for students) there is no reason why students can't choose to do online reading on their own.

And if you'd like even more flexibility, there is another alternative for really cheap college textbooks
