Stay-At-Home Penny Pincher

by Amanda
(LaVergne, TN, USA)

I believe this tax credit should be extended past 2010 because I will be in college until 2012. I have to stay at home to take care of my 1-year-old son, and will be having another child soon.

My husband makes just under $160,000 a year, but because we have debt, so much of his check goes to bills. We are currently paying them off, slowly but surely. However, there are many things we still need. I have to cancel my dentist appointment to get some cavities looked at that I've had since my last pregnancy because I need to purchase another book. I received just enough of a loan to cover the majority of my tuition, but there was nothing left over to cover the rest, or the cost of books and other mandatory fees. Whenever my husband and I eat out, we eat only what coupons we have will cover. We live off of peanut butter sandwiches and oatmeal.

Any extra money we get would be such a blessing, that if this tax credit was extended, it would be a huge weight off of the backs of my husband and I.

It sounds like you've had problems in the past managing your money, but hopefully you will be able to get back on your feet once you graduate. The college tax credit was extended through 2012, but it still has not been made permanent.
