Why is AOTC Going to End?

by William
(Gastonia NC)

Why would this credit end? If it's actually used a lot, what would make Congress think it should end? There are many, many other programs that should be cut before this one, if the economy is really to blame for not continuing this credit.

ANSWER:

I believe this credit will be extended, if Congress goes along with President Obama's proposal to do so. Originally, the legislation was for the credit to only exist for two years (2009, 2010) but the economic climate has not improved the way legislators hoped it would.

Unfortunately, if the credit is not extended- Congress will deny that the program was "cut". They will say it simply ended when it was scheduled to.
